William is a PhD researcher at the Centre for Doctoral Training, Sustainable Consumption Institute and the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. He is a graduate of Chinese Studies (MA) and Ecological Economics (MSc) from the University of Edinburgh; he also has experience in the UK decentralised energy sector and was a visiting student at the Centre for International Climate and Environmental Research (CICERO), Oslo.
William’s research is focused on a human well-being framework for CO2 reductions. By quantitatively analysing country level pathways of human development and carbon emissions, this research aims to explore scenarios for low-carbon transitions in annex 1 nations based on voluntary reductions in economic activity and energy use. Similarly, it seeks evidence for a convergence towards non-resource intensive development trajectories, alternatives to the economic growth paradigm and appropriate policy measures thereof.
