Harriet (Harrie) Larrington-Spencer is undertaking a PhD in Human Geography at the University of Manchester’s School of Education, Environment and Development. She holds an MSc (Cum Laude) from Wageningen University in International Land and Water Management (2014), an MSc from the University of Copenhagen in Agricultural Development (2014) and a BSc (First Class Honours) in Environmental Geography and International Development from the University of East Anglia (2012). Prior to commencing her PhD, Harrie worked in governmental and non-governmental organisations in both Europe and Asia exploring gender, equity and sustainability in the access, use and management of water resources.

Harrie’s PhD investigates trajectories of water and energy consumption in China, aiming to develop critical understandings of the everyday practices that underpin water and energy consumption and how these are being influenced and changed by economic, political and socio-spatial transformations of cities and urban household infrastructures. Through her PhD she hopes to contribute impact-focused research to the growing geographies of sustainability and consumption. Harrie’s PhD is a fully funded ESRC CASE studentship and is being undertaken in partnership with Unilever.
