Warde, A. & Savage, M. (2009) ‘Il capitale culturale e l’analisi sociologica della cultura: una reinterpretazione’ [Cultural capital and the sociological analysis of culture: a re-assessment], in Santoro, M. (ed.) Cultura in Italia: la cultura come capitale – consumi, produzioni, politiche, identita, Bologna: Il Mulino, pp. 27-50.

What unites a group of purchasing fair to the literary production of a migrant writer, evenings night of a company of young Milanese to the complex management of an opera? They are all manifestations of that effervescent "cultural life" which for some years has remained at the scene not only of the daily press and the media but also the social sciences. This provides an overview of this cultural life, focusing on consumption patterns, strategies and contexts of production, moments of encounter and engagement. What emerges is a representation of the many ways in which the culture in our country works today as a crucial resource, such as a "capital" of course, not only to the reproduction of social inequality, but also for economic development and intellectual property, and for the moral growth of individuals, groups and communities.
